In re JOHANNA PARKER: DECEASED.
This name is spelled Johanna, Johnnah and Johannah in the will, and Johanna in the will index.
In the name of God amen. This is the last will and testament of me Johnnah Parker of Saint John’s, Widow of the late Thomas Parker I hereby revoke and utterly disallow all former and other wills made by me at any time I give and bequeath my house and land, debentures, stock and other deposits in the Union Bank of Newfoundland money and securities for money and all other my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever to my executors hereinafter appointed and to the survivor of them his executors or administrators in trust for the purposes hereinafter mentioned the said property debentures &c being more particularly described in the schedule A hereto annexed subscribed by me-
I direct that my debts funeral and testamentary expenses shall be duly discharged by my executors. I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Parker all my household furniture and the use of the tenement I now occupy free of rent I direct my executors to keep leased the other two tenements to the best advantage and the whole to be kept insured against fire I direct that my wearing apparel be given to my sister in law Mrs. William Parker to dispose of as I shall verbally direct her. I direct my executors to keep the sum of eight hundred pounds in addition to my shares in the Union Bank perpetually invested in Government or other good security and the interest arising therefrom together with the dividends and bonuses of my Union Bank stock and the rents of my two tenements before referred to be applied as follows First to defray my just and necessary expenses incurred by my said executors Second to pay my sister Catherine Dunn the sum of twenty pounds currency per annum during her life and after her death the said twenty pounds to my sister Alice Gilligan during her life and after her death to her children share and share alike. Third to my sister Alice Gilligan the sum of twenty pounds currency per annum during her life and after her death to her children in like proportion. Fourth the residue of the said annual income to be paid annually to my son Thomas Parker during the term of his natural life And if he should die without leaving children surviving at the time of his death it is my wish that a further sum of twenty pounds currency per annum be paid to my sister Catherine Dunn during her life and after her death to go to my sister Alice Gilligan in the same manner as the first twenty pounds And the residue of my said son’s share to my sister Alice Gilligan during her life and after his death to her children share and share alike But if my son shall marry and die leaving children surviving at the time of his death it is my will that his portion of said annual income be continued to his wife for the support of herself and children but if his wife should die or marry the whole to go to the maintenance of the children until they each arrive at the age of twenty one and on each arriving at that age to be paid his or her proportion in equal parts should all the said children die before attaining that age then their shares to my sister Alice Gilligan and her children after her death Should my son die leaving a wife and no children and without sufficient means out of his own estate to provide his wife with an income of seventy five pounds per annum then it is my will that the half of my son’s portion be paid to his wife during her life to cease if she marries again the residue in this and in all cases to be for my sister Alice Gilligan during her life and for her children after her death share and share alike-
I will that the sum of seventy pounds currency be paid to the Roman Catholic Bishop of St. John’s (Fifty pounds for Masses for the soul of myself and husband and twenty pounds for masses for the soul of my son Robert Parker) I will that the sum of twenty pounds currency be paid to the Roman Catholic Orphanage St. John’s. After payment of all debts funeral and testamentary expenses and legacies and after the investment of the said sum of eight hundred pounds as aforesaid the balance of money left is to be paid to my son Thomas Parker- And lastly I hereby nominate constitute and appoint Laurence Parker and Michael K. Greene to be the executors of this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand at Saint John’s Newfoundland this twenty first day of December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy one.

Signed published and declared by the said testatrix for and as her last will and testament in the presence of us and we the said witnesses subscribed the same as such in the presence of the said testatrix and in the presence of each other the same having first been read over and explained.
