Will of Johana Mullowney

This name is spelled Johana and Johanna in the will, and Johanna in the will index.

In re: JOHANA MULLOWNEY. DECEASED

This is the Last will and Testament of me, Johana Mullowney, of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland, widow, and I hereby revoke all former wills and testamentary writings. I appoint Cyril J. Cahill of Saint John’s Solicitor sole Executor of this my will.

I will and direct that my Executor herein named shall first pay out of my general personal estate all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses.

I give, devise and bequeath unto my daughters, Alice, wife of Patrick Burke of St. John’s aforesaid, and Margaret, wife of Richard Mealy, of the same place, to be divided equally between them, share and share alike, the western end or half of the land and double Dwelling House, situate on the south side of Water Street West in the town of St. John’s aforesaid, and bounded on the south by the River and on the east by land now or formerly of Thomas Grant, and the passage way leading from Water Street shall be used and enjoyed by the respective owners or occupiers of said double house in common

If at the time of my death there shall be due to me any money under an agreement made between myself and John Mullowney, dated the 18th day of April Anno Domini one thousand nine hundred and one, and provided same is actually collected for my estate, I give, devise and bequeath the sum of one hundred dollars (if so large a sum is due and actually collected) unto my grand-daughter Isabel Summers, at present residing at Halifax Nova Scotia. In witness whereof I have set my hand to this my will at St. John’s aforesaid the 13th day of August Anno Domini one thousand nine hundred and seven Johana her X mark Mullowney signed by the above-named Johana Mullowney as her last will by making her mark thereto in the presence of us, both being present at the same time, who in her presence and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses, the said will having been first read over and explained to her in our presence Cyril J Cahill Mary Pitman
