This is the last will and testament of me John Jenkins at present of St. John’s Newfoundland Master Mariner, I hereby revoke all former wills by me made and I will and bequeath unto my executors hereafter named all my dwelling house and land in New Gower Street in St. John’s aforesaid and also all other my real and personal property of every description whatsoever and wheresoever upon trust for the sole use and behoof of my wife Ellen for and during the term of her natural life provided she shall remain sole and unmarried and upon the death or marriage of my said wife whichever shall first happen upon trust for the sole and separate use of my niece Sarah Jenkins and her assigns.     I appoint the Revd George M. Johnson and Mr. James Tessier Executors of this my last will and testament.     In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirtieth day of May Anno Domini eighteen hundred and seventy one.     John Jenkins (LS)     Signed sealed and declared by the said testator as his last will and testament in our presence who in his presence and in that of each other have signed the same as witnesses to the due execution, W.V.
