In re JAMES BRIAN. DECEASED. (This name is spelled Brian and Brine in the will, and Brian in the Will Index.)In the name of God Amen, I James Brian of the town of St. John*s Newfoundland being at present very sick but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, first and principally of all I give and recommend my soul to Almighty God that gave it and my body to be decently interred, and touching such worldly estate as God has bles sed me with in this life I give demise and bequeath the same in the following manner and form. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Ellen Brian the house i now live in and the sum of fifty pounds currency and also all my household furniture and effects to me now belonging and to be paid over to her in such sum or sums as my executors shall think reasonable and proper. I give and bequeath to my nephew James Byrne the sum of thirty pounds cy payable to him at the discretion of my executors. I give the sum of One pound ten shillings cy to each of the Catholic Clergy undermentioned, say the Revd Kyran Walsh, O*Donnell, Vericar, Father Ryan, Clampet. I leave the sum of six pounds for High Mass for my soul. I leave the sum of five pounds for the Roman Catholic Cathedral in this town. I leave to the nuns of the Convent in this town the sum of five pounds cy. I leave the woman that now attends me, that is Mrs. Healy, ten pounds cy. And I nominate and appoint Mr. Michael Connors and Thomas Brennan both of St. John*s, executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof after hearing this will read over to me and explained I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of October 1852. James his X mark Brian. Witness present, Hy Devereux, Not Pub. I have from time to time deposited in the Savings Bank in the name of my wife Ellen Brine sums of money which with interest thereon now amount to £97.3.9 cy and it is my desire and request that the sum of £50 in the annexed will bequeathed to my said wife Ellen Brine shall be deducted from and paid out of the said sum of £97.3.9.
