In re
  Elizabeth Tremills deceased. This is the last will and testament of me Elizabeth Tremills of Petty Harbor in the Central District Widow of the late John Tremills deceased. I desire that my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses shall be first paid. I give devise and bequeath to my niece Maria Chafe wife of Henry Alfred Chafe the land dwelling house and kitchen garden now occupied by me situate at Petty Harbor aforesaid also all my household goods and furniture contained in the said house with the exception of the articles of furniture hereinafter specifically bequeathed to John William Tremills and Nathaniel Tremills- To hold the same to the said Maria Chafe for her sole and separate use and benefit free from the control of any husband. I give and bequeath to the said Henry Alfred Chafe my carriage and harness. I give and bequeath to John William Tremills my watch writing desk, feather bed, bedding, bedstead, one bedroom table, one kitchen table and six chairs at present in my bedroom. I also give and bequeath to the said John William Tremills the sum of one hundred pounds currency with interest thereon from the time of my death until he shall attain the age of twenty one years I desire that my executors hereinafter named shall deposit the said sum of one hundred pounds currency in the Savings Bank and pay the same with the interest which shall become due thereon to the said John William Tremills upon his attaining the age of twenty one years. I give and bequeath to Nathaniel James Tremills one writing desk, pillow and feather bed out of my furniture aforesaid. I also give and bequeath to the said Nathaniel James Tremills the sum of forty pounds currency to be deposited in the Savings Bank and paid to him on his attaining the age of twenty one years with interest thereon in like manner as the bequest to John William Tremills. It is my will and desire that my executors hereinafter named shall take charge of the said articles of furniture bequeathed to John William Tremills and Nathaniel James Tremills and keep the same for them until they shall attain the age of twenty one years. Should either the said John William Tremills or Nathaniel James Tremills die before attaining the age of twenty one years I desire that the share of the one so dying shall go to the survivor upon his attaining the age of twenty one years. I give and bequeath to Mary Lee, William Lee (son of Mary Lee) Susanna Lee (daughter of said Mary Lee) Nancy Martin (daughter of James Tremills) Mary Hex (also daughter of James Tremills) and Alice Tremills widow of James Tremills the sum of five pounds sterling each. I give and bequeath to my niece Sarah Jane Moore of St. John’s the sum of five pounds currency for the purpose of purchasing a suit of mourning. I give and bequeath to the following children of the aforesaid Maria Chafe namely Elizabeth, Emma, George and Isabella the sum of five pounds currency each to be deposited by my executors in the Savings Bank and paid to the said children upon their attaining the age of twenty one years with the interest that shall become due thereon in the same manner as the bequest to John William Tremills. In the event of any of the said children dying before attaining the age of twenty one years I desire that the bequests to the ones so dying shall be divided equally among the survivors upon attaining the age of twenty one years. It is my wish and desire that the aforesaid John William Tremills shall live with his uncle the said Henry Alfred Chafe and the foregoing bequests to the said Maria Chafe and Henry Alfred Chafe are subject to the condition that they shall keep the said John William Tremills free of charge until he shall attain the age of twenty one years. I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Chafe wife of Robert Chafe the sum of ten pounds currency I desire that the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects shall be divided equally among the whole of the before mentioned legatees share and share alike. I appoint Jacob Bishop of Petty Harbor Schoolmaster and Emanuel Chafe of the Goulds, Farmer, executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand at Petty Harbor aforesaid this thirteenth day of March A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty two. Elizabeth Tremills.
