Will of Edwin Lyon

In re: EDWIN . W. LYON. DECEASED.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Edwin W. Lyon, of Saint John’s, Newfoundland, Photographer.

I hereby revoke all other wills by me at any time heretofore made.

I give devise and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth the land building and premises situate on the North Side of Water Street in Saint John’s a portion of which is occupied by me in my photography business and other portions thereof being in the occupations of my tenants TO HOLD the same together with the rents issues and profits thereof unto my said wife for and during her life and at her death I give devise and bequeath the same to my adopted daughter Ethel B. Bartlett TO HOLD the same unto the said Ethel B. Bartlett absolutely and forever.

I give devise and bequeath to my said wife the sum of Three Hundred Dollars in trust to lay out and expend the said sum in the purchase of a Cemetery plot and a suitable monument to be placed thereon.
To my adopted daughter Ethel B. Bartlett I give devise and bequeath all my interest share and claim in and to the property on Waterford Bridge Road belonging to the estate of my mother, who died intestate, (being two shares equal to two fifths of the whole) TO HOLD the same unto the said Ethel B. Bartlett for ever.

All the rest residue and remainder of my estate, lands, property, goods, chattels, moneys and effects whatsoever including all Life Insurance moneys and benefits payable to me or to my estate by the Sun Life Insurance Company and the Masonic Mutual Insurance Association, and shares in Companies, I give devise and bequeath to my said wife for and during her life, and at her death I give devise and bequeath the same unto my two adopted daughters, Ethel B. Bartlett and Florence M. Noonan, in equal shares. Should either of my said adopted daughters die in the lifetime of my said wife leaving children, said children shall take the share of their deceased parent.

I hereby appoint my said wife Elizabeth to be the sole Executrix of this my will.
Dated at Saint John’s, Newfoundland, this first day of June, Anno Domini One thousand nine hundred and twenty three.
