Will of Edward J. Snow

In re: EDWARD J SNOW. DECEASED.

This is the last will and testament of me Edward J. Snow, of the Torbay Road in the Electoral District of St. John's East, Farmer. I revoke all former wills by me at any time made, and I appoint John B. Wadland, School Teacher and George R. Williams, Commission Merchant, both of St. John's to be the executors of this my will.

I give and bequeath the Home Farm which I have cultivated and on which I at present reside, with the exception of the piece of land next hereinafter mentioned, to my son John, but he is to provide a home on the same for his mother during her lifetime and to contribute reasonably to her support and maintenance.

I give and bequeath to my son Charles from out of the said Home Farm a piece of land containing about ten acres, being wooded land on the eastern side of the said farm, bounded on the south by the Ridge Road, on the east by Crosbies property and on the north by the property of Wheeler. I also give and bequeath to my said son Charles all my land fronting on the Torbay Road aforesaid and being the property purchased by me from Malones and known as "Malones Farm" and also the property immediately north of the same and recently purchased by me, but my said son is also to contribute reasonably to the support and maintenance of his mother during her lifetime.

I will and direct that during the life of their mother my said two sons are to have the joint use of my horses, cattle and farm stock generally as well as my farming utensils and implements. Upon the death of my wife I direct that my said executors shall divide the said horses, cattle, farm stock and farming utensils and implements equally between my said two sons, and failing an agreement between my said sons on such a division the same to be sold and the proceeds divided equally between my said sons.

I will and direct that my said executors shall sell the building known as the "Mill House" and divide the proceeds of such sale equally between my said sons, and also that they shall either divide the machinery equally between my said sons or failing an agreement as to such division to also sell and divide as regard the machinery.
I will and direct that my said executors shall out of my estate pay for the lumber which I have ordered for the building of a house on the Malone property for my son Charles.

I will and direct that after the death of my wife my said executors shall sell my household furniture (except the piano hereinafter mentioned) and divide all the proceeds equally between my four children.
I give and bequeath my piano to my daughter Annie. I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Annie the sum of one thousand dollars.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Harriett Lilian the sum of Twelve hundred dollars.
All the rest and residue of my estate, including any cash in Bank or money on mortgage. I give to my wife Naomi for her own use during her lifetime, and upon her death I direct that any balance remaining shall be divided equally between my four children mentioned above. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand at St. John's aforesaid this fourteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and seventeen - Edward J. Snow
