In re EDWARD DUFF: DECEASED. In the name of God Amen, I Edward Duff of St. John’s, Planter, being sick of body but of sound memory and understanding do make the following as my last will and testament. First; I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Duff the sum of two hundred pounds currency for her own use and benefit and that she shall have the final disposal of any balance thereof that shall be remaining at her death. Secondly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Martin wife of Thomas Martin the sum of ten pounds currency for her own use and benefit free of the control of her husband. Thirdly, I give and bequeath to the Reverend Michael Walsh at River Head the sum of five pounds currency for the good of my soul. Fourthly- I give devise and bequeath all and singular the rest and remainder of my lands, tenements, houses, goods, chattels, property, money and effects of every kind whatever and wheresoever situate and being unto my two sons Thomas Duff and Richard Duff to have and to hold to them and their assigns for ever- share and share alike- I appoint Walter Grieve Esquire and Mr. James MacLoughlin both of St. John’s executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills made by me-In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland this thirteenth day of January A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty either (1858) Edward his X mark Duff (LS) Signed sealed published and declared by the said Edward Duff as and for his last will and testament on the day and year aforesaid in our presence the same having been first read over to him and approved of by him before us, John Little, Denis Mealy Certified correct, D.
