In re
            Edward Maher deceased.

In the name of God Amen.     I Edward Maher of Saint John’s Shopkeeper being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make ordain and publish the following as and for my last will and testament-     To my executor hereinafter named I will and bequeath all my lands chattels monies and effects to have and to hold the same in trust and to apply the rents issues and profits thereof to and towards the use maintenance and support of my beloved wife Jane and my daughter Mary Catherine.     I will direct and desire that no portion of my estate and chattels shall be sold, mortgaged or encumbered in any way and that the interest therein of my said daughter shall be free and clear of the claim control or interference of any husband she may marry.     On the death of my said wife I will and desire my executor to pay the rents issues and profits of my estate chattels and effects to my said daughter and on her death without leaving children her surviving I will and direct that one half of my chattels and effects or the proceeds thereof shall be paid and applied to such charitable and religious purposes and objects as my executor may deem most deserving thereof and the other part or half may be disposed of by my daughter in such manner and to such purposes as she may declare or appoint by deed will or other writing.     To the following charitable and religious institutions in Saint John’s I will and bequeath the sum of two (£2) pounds each payable on the first day of January in each year for a period of five years and impose the same as a rent charge on my land and property- The Orphanage of Saint Michael’s Belvedere The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, the Ladies’ Society of St. V. De Paul, The Christian Brothers and the Benevolent Irish Society-     I nominate and appoint my friend William P. Walsh of Saint John’s executor hereof revoking and annulling all other wills made by me, Dated at St. John’s 18th January 1883.     Edwd. Maher. Witness, W.P. Walsh, J.I. Little.
