Will of Catherine Duff

In re: CATHERINE DUFF. DECEASED

In the name of God Amen. I Catherine Duff of Mundy Pond in the District of St. John’s west do make publish and declare this as and for my last will and testament

First I will and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid as soon as possible after my death

Secondly. I give devise and bequeath to my husband John Duff all my piece or parcel of land with dwelling house barns and other erections thereon situate on the north side of Mundy’s Pond bounded as follows on the south by Mundys Pond Road on the west by Crottys land on the north by land of the Colonial Cordage Company and on the east by land of my father Michael Breen to hold the same for life or until he shall marry again if he should ever do so, and after the death of my said husband John Duff or upon his second marriage should be marry again, I give devise and bequeath the said lands and dwelling house to my seven children William, John, Edward, Michael, Mary Ellen, Catherine and Margaret to hold the same in equal shares and proportions amongst them.

Thirdly I give devise and bequeath the following to my daughter Margaret the sum of three hundred dollars to be paid to her upon reaching the age of twenty-one with interest thereon from the date of my death, to each of my other children William John Edward Michael Mary Ellen and Catherine the sum of two hundred dollars to be paid to those under age upon reaching the age of twenty one with interest thereon from the date of my death to be paid to the others after my death.

Fourthly I hereby nominate and appoint my husband John Duff to be the executor of this my will and trustee for the benefit of my children also to be guardian of the estates of those who are minors.

Fifthly It is my will and desire that the dwelling house will at all times be a home for all the family

Sixth I give my executor the sum of Forty dollars for the purpose of erecting a monument at my grave at Mount Carmel Cemetery

Seventhly I give my executor the sum of ten dollars to be given to a priest to say low Masses for the repose of my soul.

Eighthly all the residue of my moneys goods and effects I give to my husband for life and after his death equally to my children

Ninth I give my gold relic to my daughter Catherine - Mrs Catherine Duff - Signed published and declared by the said testatrix as and for her last will and testament in our presence who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our hands as witnesses this 23rd day of November 1912 J.
