LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT

OF

CAROLINE E. GILL.

I, Caroline E. Gill, of the City of Washington, District of Columbia, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following:

Item 1. I direct my executors hereinafter named to pay my just debts as soon as convenient after my decease.

Item 2. I desire to be buried in the family plot in Maple Leaf path in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York, at the foot of my mother’s grave.

Item 3. I give and bequeath to Mona W. Gill, Helen Kitty Lyon and Theodore N. Gill, Jr., together the sum of Two thousand Seven hundred Sixty one dollars and Seventeen cents ($2761.17), the same being the net amount received by me under the trust created by my cousin, Mary A. Walker, the sum of Two hundred thirty eight dollars and eighty three cents ($238.83) having been deducted from the amount of Three thousand dollars ($3000) named by her for payment of Inheritance Tax.

Item 4. I give and bequeath to St. Thomas Protestant Episcopal Church of Washington, District of Columbia, the sum of Five thousand dollars ($5000) the same to be known as The James D. And Emily W. Gill Endowment Fund and to be expended in the discretion of the Vestry of said church.

Item 5. I give and bequeath the sum of One thousand dollars ($1000) to St. Thomas Protestant Episcopal Church of Washington, District of Columbia, to be invested and re-invested in safe securities and the income arising therefrom to be expended by or under the direction of the Chancel Chapter of said Church.

Item 6. I give and bequeath to the Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Alaska in whose jurisdiction is located the grave of my brother, Edward J. Gill, in the Island of St. Paul, Alaska, and his successors in office the sum of One thousand dollars ($1000) in trust to invest and re-invest the same in some safe securities and to apply the income arising therefrom to the care of the grave and headstone of my said brother.

Item 7. I give and bequeath to the Episcopal Home for children in Anacostia, District of Columbia, the sum of Two thousand dollars ($2000), to be expended for the benefit of said home in such manner as the governing body thereof may determine.

Item 8. I give and devise to Stanford Wells the real estate owned by me situate in Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida, in appreciation of love and many kindnesses shown me by his father and mother, William T. And Nora Stanford Wells.

Item 9. I give and devise to my godson J. Fayette Hopper all my right, title and interest in real estate situated in St. John’s Newfoundland.

Item 10. I give and bequeath the sum of One hundred dollars ($100) to Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York, to be held as a permanent fund from the income of which the plot of James D. Gill shall be suitably cared for.

Item 11. All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate except jewellery, furniture, clothing and personal effects, I give, bequeath and devise to Charlotte E. Wells of New York city, Louisa Rivas Fisher of Germantown, New York, William T. Putnam of Lake Cushman, Washington and Mildred Hopper of Cahoes, New York, to be equally divided among them, share and share alike.

Item 12. I request my executors to distribute my jewellery, furniture, clothing and personal effects in accordance with direction contained in a sealed letter accompanying this will.

Item 13. I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my brother Herbert A. Gill and Walter C. Clephane, both of Washington, District of Columbia, to be Executors hereof.

17. To Helen Lyon, Helen Gill Lyon’s daughter my diamond and opal ring also diamond set - pin & earrings to be given her on her 17th birthday.

18. To Helen Berry, Upper Marlboro Md. my black set of furs (Garfinkles) storage

To Mrs. Mary K. Thurston, in memory of great kindness, my pearl & green necklace, (box in Miss Gay Clifton’s care)

The brown envelope containing my Will, Garfinkle’s receipts for velvet & fur coat & 2 sets furs in the bottom, at right hand side of trunk I am now using (large trunk)

The rest of my furniture, jewellery and clothing to be divided equally between, Gladys Griffith, Mildred hopper & Gay Clifton If there is a residue in money, I bequeath to Helena Smith Berry, & also those mentioned in my Will.
