In re: CAMPBELL MCPHERSON DECEASED
This is the last will and Testament of me Campbell McPherson of St. John’s Merchant I revoke all wills and testaments heretofore made by me I bequeath to my wife Emma my Cottage on the Monday Pond Road with the buildings and grounds appurtenant thereto and all farm stock and utensils for her sole and absolute use and benefit for ever. I bequeath to my said wife all my household goods furniture and effects whatsoever including plate pictures works of art ornaments musical and scientific instruments china glass and all other articles in use in my dwelling house or pertaining thereto for her sole and absolute use I bequeath to my said wife one hundred shares of four hundred dollars each (face value) in "the Royal Stores Limited" for her sole separate and absolute use and benefit
I bequeath to my said son Harold one hundred and fifty shares (of four hundred dollars each) in the said "Royal Stores Limited" to be held and applied by him to under and for the following trusts limitations and conditions namely that from and out of the yearly dividends or income arising out of or accruing from the said shares there shall be deducted and paid a first charge or deduction of five per cent upon the face value of said shares to go to and be paid to my son Cluny and my daughters Violet and Eva in equal shares or portions of one third or the sum of one thousand dollars, to each, for his or her sole and separate use and benefit, to be paid to him or her during his or her life, and after his or her death to his or her representatives. I desire that the surplus or balance of the annual dividend or income arising from or out of the said shares shall go to and belong to my said son Harold for his sole and absolute use and benefit until the winding up of the said Royal Stores Limited, upon which event I desire and direct that the said shares or the proceeds thereof or the share or interest of and in the property and assets of the Company represented by the said shares shall go to the several legatees or their representatives respectively who shall have been entitled to the said annual allowance or payment of five per cent and in the same shares or proportions. I further desire and direct that as regards the said one hundred and fifty shares, my said son Harold shall have the option at any time of purchasing out the same and becoming the sole and absolute owner thereof or any portion thereof upon paying the face value thereof to the person or persons entitled to the annual income of five per cent thereon. I further desire and direct that subject to the foregoing limitations and conditions my said son Harold shall have and exercise all the rights powers and privileges of a shareholder in the said Royal Stores of and in respect of the said one hundred and fifty shares.
- I bequeath to my sister Margaret Campbell McPherson the sum of ten thousand dollars for her sole and separate use and benefit.
- I bequeath to each of my nephews Hubert Bond and Fraser Bond the sum of two thousand dollars, and to my niece Roberta Bond the sum of two thousand dollars.
- I bequeath to the Newfoundland Methodist Conference the sum of Five thousand dollars to be applied to the erection and maintenance of a Deaconess’s Home,
- the sum of two thousand dollars towards a fund for the superannuation of retired ministers, and the sum of two thousand dollars to be applied to or towards the furnishing of parsonages in poor localities subject to the proviso or condition that no payment shall be made out of this bequest unless or except an equal amount be contributed and paid towards the same purpose by the people resident in or in the vicinity of the locality in which the parsonage is or is to be erected.
- I bequeath to the said Newfoundland Methodist Conference the sum of ten thousand dollars in trust to invest the same in some safe and good security and to apply the annual interest or income therefrom to defraying the cost of sending one minister or missionary every year to the Holy Land
- I bequeath to the Board of Governors of the Methodist College in St. Johns the sum of Five thousand dollars to be invested in good and safe security and the yearly interest or income thereon to be applied to one or more scholarships in connection with the College at their discretion to be called or known as the McPherson scholarship.
- I bequeath to the said Methodist Conference or to such other body or person as shall be at the time of my death the proprietors or have the beneficial control or ownership of the building known as the Temperance Hall in Victoria Street St. John’s the sum of two thousand dollars.
- I bequeath to the Trustees of the Gower Street Methodist Church the sum of Three thousand dollars to be applied towards the reduction of the debt upon the building of the said church.
- I bequeath to the Governors of the Methodist College in St. John’s the sum of Three thousand dollars to be applied towards the reduction of the debt upon the said College
- I bequeath to all the clerks who shall be in my employ in the Royal Stores, at the time of my death and who shall have been in the said employ for one year continuously next preceding my death a sum equal to one months salary at the then rate paid to him or her. In the event of any of the said clerks being a married man the bequest to him shall be paid to his wife for her own use
- I bequeath to James Partridge and Mary Whelan old servants in my employ the sum of four hundred dollars each.
- I bequeath to Victoria Barnes the sum of four hundred dollars
- I bequeath to Mrs Susan Kendall, wife of the Reverend William Kendall the sum of Eight hundred dollars for her sole and separate use.
- I bequeath my house and land on Pleasant Street St. John’s, to my daughters Violette and Eva one part to each for her sole and separate use.
- I bequeath to my executors hereinafter named in consideration of their services as such executors the sum of five hundred dollars each.
All the residue and remainder of my estate not herein otherwise disposed of I desire shall be divided equally among my wife and children and the representatives of any of them who may have predeceased me at the time of my death. I appoint my wife Emma and my brother Archibald Executors of this will.

Duder This is a Codicil to my last will and Testament made on the fifth day of February A.D. 1904 In addition to the bequests in the said will to my son Harold I bequeath to him the sum of Twenty thousand dollars for his sole and absolute use. I revoke the bequests in the said will of two thousand dollars to the trustees or managers of the Temperance Hall I revoke the bequest of four hundred dollars to Victoria Barnes.
