Will of Anne Anderson

In re ANNE ANDERSON. DECEASED.

This name is spelled Ann and Anne in the will and Anne in the will index

In the name of God Amen. I Anne Anderson at present of St. John’s Widow of the late Roger Anderson do make my last will and testament in manner following that is to say- First I will and bequeath the sum of fifty pounds currency to the Orphanage of St. Michael’s Belvidere St. John’s. second To the Convent of Mercy St. John’s I will and bequeath the sum of fifty pounds currency Third To the following clergymen I will and bequeath the sum of ten pounds each for the celebration of Masses for the repose of my soul and the souls of my said late husband and my deceased uncle Owen Francis, viz- The Reverend Michael Walsh, Thomas McGrath, Dr. Howley, David O’Donnell, John Scott and Jeremiah O’Donnell- Fourth- To the Reverend John Conway I will and bequeath the sum of twenty pounds.

All the rest residue and remainder of my moneys, goods chattels and effects I will and bequeath to the said Roman Catholic Orphanage of Saint Michaels- I desire that out of said residue the sum of ten pounds shall be paid to the Roman Catholic Curate that may be at Bonavista at the time of my demise and the sum of fifty pounds currency for church purposes to be expended by the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of St. John’s. Lastly I nominate and appoint the Reverend John Conway and Joseph I. Little executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all former wills made by me, May 23rd 1869.

I. Little, E.M. Little, John Conway.

Anne Anderson deceased.

In the name of God amen. I Ann Anderson of Bonavista in the Northern District of Newfoundland being through the goodness of Almighty God of sound mind and memory but being aware of the uncertainty of human life do make publish and declare this my last will and testament, that is to say, first I recommend my soul to God who gave it and desire that my body may be decently buried beside my beloved husband Roger Anderson in the Catholic Cemetery of Bonavista-

With respect to my worldly estate I give bequeath and dispose of it in the following manner after all my just and lawful debts are paid and discharged first I give and bequeath to Johanna Gould daughter of Michael Gould of Carbonear all and singular my lands and messuages together with all my household goods and moveables to be freely and peaceably possessed and enjoyed by her during her lifetime after which the said property is to be given up to the Catholic Church. I also further give and bequeath to Johanna Gould the sum of one hundred and forty pounds (£140) together with whatever interest may be due at the savings Bank at my death in lawful money-

third I give and bequeath to her mother Elizabeth Gould of Carbonear the sum of twenty pounds-

fourth I give and bequeath the sum of sixty pounds in the following manner viz- Ten pounds to Father Hanley of Kings Cove, Ten pounds to Father John Walsh of Black Head near St. John’s, Ten pounds to Father Brown of Tilton Harbour Ten pounds to Father Veitch of Carbonear, ten pounds to Father John O’Connor formerly of Carbonear and ten pounds to Father Carolan of Bonavista all of which is to be used for Masses for the souls of my husband my uncle Owen Francis and myself,

Fifth I give and bequeath to the Convent of Carbonear the sum of ten pounds and the like sum of ten pounds for the repairs of the Chapel of Bonavista Sixth I give and bequeath to William Corcoran the sum of ten pounds, but in the event of his dying before my death the same is to go to the poor of Bonavista- Seventh I give and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to the most distressed poor of Bonavista. The two hundred and sixty pounds which is divided in the will is to be got in the Savings Bank of St. John’s Newfoundland.

And lastly I do nominate and appoint my much respected friends William Kough and Nicholas White as the executors of this my last will and testament- In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Bonavista this 31st day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five-
