Will of James Angel of St. John's

 
In re   
James Angel deceased

 This is the last Will and Testament of me the Honorable James Angel of St. John's in the island of Newfoundland, Engineer.
First.  I revoke all Wills and testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my last will and testament.
Second.  I direct that my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and death duties be paid out of my estate.
Third.  I give and bequeath
 [A] to the Methodist Orphanage one thousand dollars.
 [B] to the trustees of George Street Methodist Church one thousand dollars to be used for the exclusive purpose of erecting the proposed George Street school building, but said sum shall not be paid until said building is in the course of erection, and if said building is not commenced within five years from my death I give and bequeath the said sum of one thousand dollars to the Board of Governors of the Methodist College.
 [C] to the Church of England Orphanage, the Roman Catholic Orphanage and the Salvation Army Rescue Home one hundred and fifty dollars each.
Fourth.  Inasmuch as I promised my grandson Heber Angel to pay the expenses of his college course and have paid the same for one year, I direct my executors to pay out of my estate the said Heber Angel's college expenses for the balance of his course remaining unfinished at my death and not then paid by me.
Fifth.  Inasmuch as I promised my grand-daughter Jean Angel to pay one-half of the expenses of her college course, I direct my executors to pay out of my estate the said one-half of the said Jean Angel's college expenses for the balance of her course remaining unfinished at my death and not then paid by me.
Sixth.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret Brown and my sons John E. Angel and Frederick W. Angel such articles of my household furniture ornaments and personal effects as they may each select, but not in such quantity as in my executors opinion or in the opinion of either of them will seriously effect the bulk and should any disagreement arise I direct that the whole selection shall be made by my executors each with the approval of all the others.
Seventh.  I give and bequeath all the residue of my household furniture ornaments and effects to my daughter Lilian Moore.
Eighth.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Lilian Moore debentures of the Reid Newfoundland Company of the face value of six thousand dollars.
Ninth.  If my niece Jennie Angel shall be living with me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to her a sum of money equal to one year of the salary which I shall then be paying her.
Tenth.  If my manservant Stephen Mercer shall be living with me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to him a sum of money equal to three months of the salary which I shall then be paying him.
Eleventh.  If my maidservant Mary should be living with me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to her a sum of money equal to three months of the salary which I shall then be paying her.
Twelfth.  I give devise and bequeath all the residue of my property to my children John E. Angel Frederick W. Angel and Lilian Moore.
Thirteenth.  I have not given my daughter Margaret Brown anything in this my Will except as mentioned in paragraph six for the reason that during my lifetime I have seen that she has been provided for and that considering her family and her requirements her position is satisfactory and I think the provisions of this my Will will not put my other children in any better relative position than she occupies.
Fourteenth.  I appoint my said sons John E. Angel and Frederick W. Angel Executors of this my Will.  In witness whereof I the said Honorable James Angel have hereunto subscribed my hand at St. John's aforesaid this first day of September Anno Domini one thousand nine hundred and seventeen.  James Angel.  Signed by the above named Testator as his last will and testament in the presence of us, both being present at the same time, who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.   Maud J.
