Will of David Chafe of St. John's
In re 
David Chafe  deceased

This is the last Will and Testament of me David Chafe, of St. John's, in the Island of Newfoundland, Shop-Keeper. 
1.  I give, devise and bequeath unto my Executor hereinafter named all my household furniture goods chattels and effects contained in my dwelling house and shop in which I now reside and carry on business together with my said dwelling house and shop, and which said dwelling house and shop is situate on the Western side of Colonial Street, in St. John's aforesaid. To hold the same in trust for my wife Emma during her lifetime or until she marries again.  On the death or remarriage of my said wife I give, devise and bequeath my said dwelling house and shop, household furniture goods chattles and effects unto my following brothers and sisters that is to say:- Frederick Chafe, James Chafe, Henry Chafe, Lizzie wife of William Jones, Rachel wife of Thomas Rigby, and Emma wife of Thomas Doolan.  To hold the same until my said brothers and sisters as tenants in common. 
2.  All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate and effects of whatsoever nature and wheresoever situate I give and bequeath unto my said brothers and sisters equally. 
3.  In the event of any or either of my said brothers and sisters dying leaving issue him or her surviving the issue of such deceased parent shall take his or her share under this my will equally. 
4.  I nominate and appoint Robert Mercer, of St. John's aforesaid, machinist, in the office of the Evening Telegram to be the Executor of this my said last will and testament. 
In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand at St. John's this Tenth day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and Twenty.  D. Chafe. 
Signed by the said David Chafe, as and for his last will and testament in our presence who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
