Will of George Neal of St. John's
In re                 
George Neal  deceased.

 This is the last will and testament of me George Neal of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Merchant.
First.  I appoint The Eastern Trust Company, Executor of this my Will.
Second.  To my wife Lydia Neal I give and bequeath 
     [A]  my messuage and premises known as No. 94 Military Road where I now reside.
     [B]  all my household furniture, goods, chattels and effects including my motorcar and all my personal effects;
     [C]  all my money amounting to about thirty-two thousand dollars at present deposited in the Savings Department of the Bank of Nova Scotia at St. John's;
     [D]  the proceeds of all my Life Insurance policies.
Third.  I give to each of my daughters, Maud, Elsie May, Phyllis, and Edith, the sum of Ten thousand dollars, and I direct that my wife shall be at liberty in her own absolute discretion to apply the whole or any part of the income arising therefrom to the maintenance and education of the daughter entitled to the principal during her minority.
Fourth.  I give One thousand dollars to each of my sisters, namely, Jane Christopher, Amelia Baxtrom, Maggie Thistle, Lizzie Chancey, Jessie Neal and Anna Gould.  I give Five hundred dollars to Lizzie Pearcey daughter of my deceased sister Mary Ann Pearcey.  I give Two hundred and fifty dollars to each of my Wife's sisters namely Frederica Squires and Carrie Cull.  I give Two hundred and fifty dollars to my wife's brother Algernon Tucker.  I give Two hundred and fifty dollars to Effie Charles, widow of my late accountant William Charles.  I give Five hundred dollars to my employee Henry Noftall.  I give the sum of One hundred dollars each to any of my employees [except Henry Noftall] who shall have been with me for one year prior to the date of my death.  I give One thousand dollars to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at St. John's.  I give Five hundred dollars to each of the following, namely; The Church of England Orphanage, Mount Cashel  The Methodist Orphanage and Belvedere Orphanage.  I give Two hundred and fifty dollars to each of the following namely, The Salvation Army for relief of the poor of St. John's, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Dorcas Society.
Fifth.  I direct that all my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and death duties be paid out of the residue of my estate.
Sixth.  I direct my Executor as soon as practical after my death to convert my business into a Company limited by shares upon such terms and in such manner as my Executor shall in its uncontrolled discretion think fit after consultation with my two sons William R. Neal and David Neal if they are available, and without limiting such general authority I expressly declare that my Executor [A] may provide for the absolute management of said Company by my said two sons William R. Neal and David Neal as first directors and Managing directors at salaries of three thousand dollars per annum to each until such remuneration shall be changed by the directors or by the Company in general meeting.
Seventh.  I give all the residue of my estate [subject to the payment provided for by the fifth paragraph of this my Will] and including all my business assets and shares in the Company to be formed as provided in the sixth paragraph of this my Will to my three sons William R. Neal, David Neal and George Chesley Neal in equal shares and I direct that the share of my son George Chesley Neal shall be kept in my business or Company as the case may be or otherwise in the form in which same shall be at the time of my death unless my said wife as Guardian of my said son's estate shall otherwise determine.
Eighth.  I appoint my said wife Guardian of the respective estates and effects of our children who shall be minors at the time of my death.
Ninth.  I empower my Executor to continue my business for so long as it shall think fit pending its conversion into a Company as aforesaid without being answerable for any loss arising thereby.  In witness whereof I the said George Neal have to this my Will set my hand at St. John's this twenty-fourth day of April Anno Domini One thousand nine hundred and nineteen.  G.
